The Northwest has spent three decades and billions of tax payer dollars on salmon recovery without signs of improved runs. With over one billion more dollars dedicated to reviving salmon populations, we need a new approach to restoring salmon and their habitat. A solution grounded in the best science is vital to give salmon a fighting chance at bouncing back from the low returns we've seen all throughout the region.
Under our current recovery plan, salmon continue to be pushed closer to extinction. Angling communities and businesses that depend on strong, healthy salmon runs are struggling. Emergency fishing closures have forced many to shut their doors and threaten their livelihoods well into the future. We need our legislators to get to work crafting a solution that keeps stakeholders whole, invests in infrastructure, and follows the leadership of tribes.
Please use the form below to urge your local legislators to lead us to a comprehensive, actionable solution for Pacific Northwest salmon and river-dependent communities. It's time to get serious about working together and building a plan that restores salmon runs. We can come to a solution that strengthens rural economies and builds a more resilient future for the region, but not if we keep waiting. We've waited 30 years for the status quo to start showing signs of success.
We need a new plan.
