Derby Official Rules
1. Dates, Times, and Fees
A. Derby fishing tournament commences Saturday August 28, 2021 from one hour before sunrise – 2:00pm.
B. Official weigh-in will be virtually through Photos submitted via email to FallDerby@anws.org.
C. Official photo submitted for length results will be open until 2:15 pm Saturday, August 28, 2021. Positively no fish will be accepted beyond this time. Each photo must be time stamped and witnessed by team captain.
D. Derby competition tickets are $100 each member adult, $25.00 each for youth tickets, ages 16 & under. Tickets must be purchased at website by 11:59 pm on Friday, August 21, 2021. Tickets purchased by July 28, 2021 shall be entered into the early bird prize drawing and also get to order your exact shirt size.
E. Derby competition tickets for individual non-association adult members are $130 which includes an annual NW Steelheaders membership.
F. Teams are allowed and the maximum number of people per team is 3 people with a derby competition fee of $279. See team details in "Conditions of Participation".
2. Fishing Area
The Pacific Ocean limited to the coasts of Oregon and Washington. Columbia River and its tributaries as established by the Oregon Dept of Fish and Wildlife (O.D.F.W) and/or Washington Dept Of Fish and Wildlife ( WDFW ) depending on your Port of Call
3. Conditions of Participation
A. Each tournament participant must have purchased a derby ticket prior to angling in the tournament. Tickets must be purchased at NWSteelheaders.org prior to Saturday August 19th. There will be no ticket sales the day of the derby! All fish must be caught during day and time of derby.
B. Salmon (Chinook or Coho) entries must be caught on the day of the derby and according to O.D.F.W and /or WDFW regulations dependent on your port of call. Other fish species are not allowed to be entered.
C. Contestants must hook and play every fish on rod and reel and according to ODFW and or WDFW rules, unaided except for netting. Fish entered in fishing tournament must be tagged and entered by individual responsible for hook and play of caught fish.
D. Salmon tournament competition will be determined by length inches. Measured from tip of nose to tip of the tail laying on its side on a flat surface – (see ODFW regulations).
E. Tournament fish photos must be presented to judges before fish can be entered for the length. The photo must be clearly show the inches of the fish.
F. Tournament entrants are eligible for salmon competition.
G Contestants are prohibited from fishing from a boat with commercial gear in use or engaged in commercial fishing. A tournament contestant may not enter a fish that has been caught on commercial gear.
H. All photographs and films, submitted by participants or taken throughout the tournament by tournament officials become the sole property of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders (ANWS) and may be used in future promotional events.
I. All fish photo entries will be measured by the team captain and will be judged by tournament officials. Fish entries can be cleaned and whole fish.
J. The ANWS and others participating in the sponsorship of this derby accept no responsibility for damages or injuries sustained by contestants. As a condition of and in consideration of the acceptance of their entries therein, all contestants and their parents or guardians shall be deemed to agree and assume all risks of injury to the competitor’s property and person, resulting from, caused by, or connected with the conduct and management of the competition, and to release any and all claims which they may have against officials, the ANWS, and organizations that take part in the sponsorship of this derby. Participation accepted only on these conditions.
K. The decisions of the Derby Committee and their officials are final in any contested matter. The Derby Committee and its officials reserve the right to refuse service, entrance, or disqualify persons from tournament competition.
L. The Derby Committee members will be ineligible to participate in the promotion and shall be ineligible for any prize covered herein.
M. Please note: If there is a complete closure of the Columbia River, or its tributaries by ODFW as updated daily, the derby committee reserves the right to change the rules of tournament competition which will be posted electronically at www.nwsteelheaders,org. In lieu of such unanticipated events. it is the responsibility of the contestant to make themselves aware of such rule changes as posted on the above website.
4. Competition Participation
A. Competition Entry Fee is $100 per angler. – Must be a member of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders. For non-association members, entry fee is $130 which includes an annual membership.
B. Teams will consist of the three individuals and all team members must fish from the same boat.
C. The combined lengths in inches of up to the three largest fish will account for the Team Competition score. All three Team Anglers must fish from the same boat. One fish per angler will be used for scoring.
Example – if a team of 3 anglers catches only 3 fish all three fish will count towards team total or if a team of 3 anglers catches 5 fish only the three longest fish will be counted towards team total, not all 5 will count toward team total length
D. Guides are permitted in Team Competition, acting as contestant or guide. A guide/captain can only use one fish per team and cannot use the same fish for both teams.
E. Team Competition entrants are also eligible to individual competition in Tournament Competition.
G. All other Derby fishing tournament rules apply.
H. Team Award prizes will be as follows: First, second and third place team based on most inches.
I, Individual award prize will be for longest fish (most inches).

B. Any and all angling must comply with current ODFW and /or WDFW regulations – No Exceptions ! Changes to rules may occur and it is the responsibility of the contestant to make themselves aware of any changes.
C. By purchasing an individual ticket entering this derby you agree to all above rules and conditions
*The tournament officials will not enter fish if the rules are not strictly followed. Official personnel at check in station may not make exceptions to the rules. The tournament officials reserve the right to refuse service, refuse entrance, or disqualify persons from tournament competition. PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY!
